He has defended all kinds of cases, misdemeanors and felonies, civil infractions and drug forfeitures, from dangerous dogs and driving with a suspended license to aggravated murder.
He is a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association and the Federal Bar of the Western District of Washington. He has practiced in Puyallup Tribal Court and Chehalis Tribal Court. In 2013 he prevailed in a forfeiture case before the Indian Tribal Court of Appeals. He has been selected and is qualified to receive court appointments from the Federal Court under the Criminal Justice Act. He has served as a Pro Tempore Judge in Pierce County District Court since 2005 hearing traffic infractions, anti-harassment petitions, civil cases and criminal cases. This means that he has been selected and approved to serve as a substitute judge.
From his years of working as a criminal defense attorney, he knows that the Justice System can be dehumanizing and arbitrary and can fail to give an individual person the individual attention that she/he deserves. His mission is to ensure that your voice is heard and that your access to justice is assured.
In his spare time James enjoys gardening, cycling, and competitive protection dog training.
